Overview

POSITION PURPOSE

To assist the kitchen team by performing cleaning and food preparation duties while ensuring the kitchen environment is maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene. The Kitchen Steward plays a key role in maintaining the operational efficiency of the kitchen and contributes to the overall guest experience by ensuring food preparation areas are clean and equipment is readily available.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Kitchen Operations  

  • Ensure all kitchen areas, including equipment, are thoroughly cleaned and maintained according to company standards. 
  • Assist in washing dishes, cutlery, pots, and kitchen equipment used during food preparation and service. 
  • Ensure that cleaning schedules are followed and documented. 
  • Properly store all cleaned equipment in designated areas. 
  • Remove waste from kitchen areas in compliance with hotel safety standards. 
  • Assist with basic food preparation duties as needed, including peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients. 
  • Report any damaged or malfunctioning kitchen equipment to the respective supervisor. 
  • Organize cleaning supplies and monitor inventory levels, replenishing as necessary. 
  • Ensure all chemicals and cleaning products are used according to health and safety guidelines. 
  • Assist in the overall cleanliness and organization of the kitchen during shift changes. 
  • Support food safety and hygiene standards by following HACCP guidelines. 

SUPPORTIVE FUNCTIONS

In addition to the performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions:  

  • Help kitchen staff with unloading and organizing food deliveries. 
  • Assist with deep cleaning tasks, such as oven cleaning, and degreasing surfaces, as per the cleaning schedule. 
  • Ensure all working areas are clean, well-organized, and free from potential hazards. 
  • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment by reporting any unsafe conditions to the supervisor. 
  • Provide support during large events or banquets by maintaining cleanliness and organization. 
  • Collaborate with other kitchen team members to ensure seamless and efficient service. 
  • Promote teamwork and cooperation among the kitchen staff. 
  • Assist in additional tasks assigned by management with a positive attitude. 
  • Be available for flexible work schedules to meet the needs of the kitchen operation. 

SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities and be able to demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job:  

  • Must be able to speak, read, and understand English. 
  • Must be able to follow instructions for cleaning and using kitchen equipment properly. 
  • Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Must be familiar with food safety and hygiene regulations. 
  • Basic knowledge of kitchen equipment and utensils. 
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain focus under pressure. 
  • Must be physically fit and able to perform repetitive tasks, including lifting and standing for long periods. 
  • Must have good organizational skills to maintain cleanliness and order in the kitchen. 
  • Must work well in a team environment and contribute to maintaining a positive and efficient kitchen operation.
  • Must have obtained Skills Pass Certification
